It's what you do now that counts.
Over the years I have learnt probably more from bad employers, bosses and companies than from good ones
I have learnt that treating your team or your staff badly,
does not inspire loyalty.
That bringing your incompetent friend in to do a job that is
already being well managed by someone who is both competent and popular, is a recipe for disaster.
That sexism has no place in the workplace.
That bosses who choose to reap all the benefits for
themselves, may soon find that they have no business left.
That those who have no ethics and are purely in it for the
money can look forward to a day when all they have is money, and little else.
So, it surprises me that, at this time, when many businesses
are facing their greatest challenges, that so many forget who it is that is paying their bills. Their customers!
These businesses would do well to take a good look at how
they are responding to customer enquiries, how long it takes to reply to customer emails. How they reply when clients ask questions that they do not understand, or when they ask for a refund.
In the last month I can think of 3 service providers from
whom I will no longer be requiring services due to either their incompetence, their “could not care less about the client” manner, or their total lack of communication.
It is a sad fact that there will be some genuine and caring
small businesses that will fail as a result of COVID. The businesses that have grown out of a passion and who simply cannot sustain themselves. That makes me very
unhappy. Why? Because they put their heart and soul into their dream, and because some other businesses will survive, despite their shoddy manner, although I like to think that their customer base will shrink. Perhaps they will scratch their
heads and wonder why? And those of us who left them, will know the answer.
So, if you are one of the lucky ones who has not had to shut
their doors yet, keep in mind the phrase “People will forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel”. And that it is how you treat people right now, that could determine your success or failure.
